The Mellieha Bay Hotel is perhaps one of the first hotels to be constructed during the 1960’s tourism boom and has remained an iconic location ever since. Boasting well over 300 rooms, it can safely be described as having the best view of all, perched as it is on the side of the massive Ghadira Bay with sea views in all directions and these are also of the unobstructed variety. It has played host to a number of famous names over the years and although it is nestled away in the far North of the island, its location does not make it that distant with the excellent public transport connection just a stone’s throw away.

The Mellieha Bay resort is set in a vast area of landscaped grounds and has its own massive indoor and outdoor pools – those who do not wish to leave the hotel are spoilt for choice when it comes to services. The catering facilities are of the highest standards, there is an ample buffet breakfast while the considerable number of restaurants provides equally fine options for lunch as well as dinner. Top quality chefs have worked at this hotel and it continues to be a magnet for its catering facilities.

The conference facilities are also top notch although a refurbishment is apparently in the offing to make this hotel a direct competitor for others in the area. The main conference hall can seat well over 100 delegates although there are plans for this to be expanded. The hotel is also used for small style weddings for up to 50 guests and the gardens are proving very popular for these intimate style events.

The Mellieha Bay Hotel rooms are also of the highest quality throughout. Having been built several decades ago, the said rooms are extremely large and full of natural light. The furniture is fine although some of the older rooms are beginning to show their age and a refurbishment is overdue. The bathrooms are slightly on the old side although cleaniness and efficiency are certainly the order of the day. The Executive Suites are tastefully and beautifully finished although again, they could do with some refurbishment.

All in all the Mellieha Bay Hotel has a wonderful location if you want to be secluded and away from it all. Transport links are good although the hotel is some distance from the nearest village Mellieha and quite far from the tourism centre of the island in St Julian’s and Sliema. A plus is that it is only a few km from the Gozo ferry which is practically five minutes away. An oasis of peace in the heart of the island!
